Some Interesting Facts:

• In India, 85% of video viewing happens from offices. 
• 76% of all video consumption happens from the top seven metros / mini metros. 
• The attention span for video content on the web is put at 3.5 minutes and around 50% of the audience drops off at the 5 minute level.
•  The hold times (time spent by a unique IP on a video) is about 12 minutes which is understandable.
• Online video consumption grew at about 28% in 2009.  
• Indian net users were on the Net for an average of 5 to 10 hours per month in the last decade, spent 15.7 hours online per month in 2009.  
• Increasing broadband penetration in India must be helping video consumption. (7.82 million subscribers out of 15.24 million subs, or 51.3% of total with > 256 kbps, as on end Dec ’09)   

Why online videos will be big in India?

•Out of billion plus population, only 35 million are fluent in English. Hence for internet to take off in India we need local language content. 

•There is inadequate local language content.

•Initiatives like Rural broadband and mass penetration of mobile phones will help internet explode in next 2-3 yrs.

•Thus its online video that can feed the masses with content.

 

What will help grow online video?

•Mega events on You Tube. 

•Curated video sites. 

•Sites with premium content. 

•Internet as a TV.

•Online video coming to mobile internet too.
